RJHS Archaeology Program 2015

We have less than a month before the students take off on another amazing adventure. This year Mr. Carroll did a lot of presenting on the first season of the program. He traveled to the annual meetings for the Archaeological Institute of America, Classical Association of New England, and the Classical Association of the MidWest and South. Everyone who came to the talks were very supportive of having high schoolers participating in archaeology at an earlier age and are hoping the program will continue to grow and be successful. This year we are hoping for another wonderful research experience and we expanded the program to include girls (an important thing to make sure archaeology is accessible to everyone).

Like last summer, Mr. Carroll had the students reflect on their expectations and feelings going into the trip. Here is the reflection that the first young woman attending the program wrote.

“With less than a month left, the excitement I have for the dig is growing rather exponentially. It was one thing to read about what archeologists do, but as the days go by, I cannot wait to put what I have learned into action. That said, I am a little nervous about going someplace I have never been before and being surrounded by people who don’t speak the same primary language as me. I’m sure it will all work out fine though, and the dig will be an amazing experience.”
